Implementation of English for Manufacturing following the acquisition of new production facilities

The client and the challenge

An international manufacturing company with facilities in many countries implemented common communication standards in English following the acquisition of new factories.

The HR department in Poland was responsible for preparing teams from the new locations to work in an international environment — including communicating with head office, other plants and project teams.

The biggest challenge was ensuring consistency in operational communication: varying levels of language proficiency, a lack of confidence in everyday conversations, and difficulties in working with technical documentation and reporting in English.

Aim of the project

The aim of the programme was to improve communication between plants and prepare teams to work in an international manufacturing environment.

What we did

We began the project with a language audit and an analysis of communication processes within the production environment.

We developed a programme comprising:

  • group training sessions for production and technical teams,
  • sessions for foremen and shift management,
  • modules on production communication, technical documentation, reporting and meetings,
  • practical scenarios related to problem reporting and inter-plant communication,
  • work on real-life examples of documentation and operational situations.

The programme has been tailored to the realities of shift work and the participants’ level, combining general language with elements of Technical English used in day-to-day production work.

We have also implemented a reporting system for HR and head office covering attendance, participants’ progress and recommendations for the programme’s further development.

Results

  • improved communication between sites and international teams,
  • greater confidence among staff in day-to-day operational communication,
  • improvements in working with technical documentation and reporting,
  • easier collaboration with head office and other locations,
  • implementation of a common standard for communication in English.

Customer quote

“Above all, we appreciated the practical approach and the excellent understanding of the realities of production work. The programme was well suited to our operational processes.”
